Principle #1 - Language arts classroom must be positive, comfortable and challenging environments, and classes in which students learn concepts that they value

  •   Classrooms should be student-centered, which means they should be comfortable enough for students to open up - open up in the sense that they have the confidence and boldness to speak up in public or among their peers. They can feel free to share about their culture and life stories, and they can be bold enough to share their views and opinions not only when the occasion calls for it, but every time they enter their classroom.

    As an educator, I always tell myself that I should always mentally and physically prepare myself to receive a variety of characters with a variety of personalities. In addition, I must create a welcoming environment for my students because I consider my classroom to be a second home for them.

    Because I had been assisting other teachers for an entire year, having my own classroom came with a certain amount of excitement and eagerness. As a result, I was shifting from classroom to classroom as needed. Yes, I became tired and frustrated at times because I kept wondering when this would end. However, it did happen, and I am overjoyed to have received my first ever class. As my students entered their new classroom, I made an effort to create a welcoming atmosphere by greeting them with a smile and a big hug. 

    During my introduction, I encouraged them to be bold, and I told them they were free to speak in whatever way they wanted (we know that some children have low self-esteem, and some may have a stuttering problem, and they may tell themselves, "I can't speak, or I can't do this, let me (the child) just sit and be quiet because they won't understand what I'm trying to say."
